Joomla is a content management system (CMS) written in PHP and JavaScript, using MySQL and MsSQL databases as storage. It is free software distributed under the GNU/GPL license.

The name Joomla! was chosen as a result of a contest, the results of which were evaluated by experts in the field of branding and marketing. The basis for the name was the word “Jumla”, which means “all together” or “as a whole” in Swahili, because many teams involved in the Mambo CMS project were unanimous in their desire to protect the interests of the creators and the community, which was the true reason for the success of Mambo CMS.

How Joomla is different from other systems
Joomla! tries to keep things as simple as possible while providing great features. Finally, people unfamiliar with programming can get a system to fully manage their websites without spending exorbitant amounts of money on closed source software.

History

Joomla CMS is an offshoot of the well-known CMS Mambo. In August 2005, most of the team of CMS Mambo developers separated from the Mambo project because of disagreement with the economic policy and plans for the development of the system. Already on September 16, 2005 the first version of Joomla! was released, which was renamed Mambo 4.5.2.3 and contained fixes for bugs and vulnerabilities discovered at that time.

Development of Joomla version 1.0 was terminated in February 2008, and final support for this version was completed on July 1, 2009. Joomla 1.5 was released to replace version 1.0. This version was released from December 2007 to March 2012 and in April 2012 its support was completed.

In late 2011 early 2012 were released Joomla 1.6 and Joomla 1.7, which were essentially intermediate versions between Joomla 1.5 and Joomla 2.5.

In 2012, the final version of Joomla 2.5 was released, which was maintained in version status with long-term support until the end of 2014.

Today, only one version of CMS is supported – Joomla 3 system with a continuous update cycle, which is a new round in the development of Joomla! CMS.

In 2020 is expected to finish the development of version 4 of Joomla.

Joomla is more than just software, all releases of the system are done by volunteers on a volunteer basis. The community behind Joomla! includes developers, designers, system administrators, translators, copywriters, and most importantly, ordinary users.

MODX is a content application platform. What does that mean? Well, it depends on who you are:

End users
MODX offers you a system that allows you to publish your offline content to the web in any form, shape, or presence you desire. It also offers a fully customizable backend interface that you can make as simple (or complex) as you want.

You can customize everything from a simple website, to a blog, to a full-blown web presence with MODX, and keep your admin interface simple and easy to use. Drag and drop your web pages to rearrange the order and move them around. Get a full WYSIWYG view of your resources. Leave Resources unpublished before you finish them. Set up a resource schedule to publish at specific times.

MODX will help you organize your content the way you want it and get amazing built-in SEO results.

Designers
Have you ever wanted complete freedom with your HTML and CSS? Tired of hacking existing systems to make your design work the way you compiled it? MODX doesn’t generate a single line of HTML – it leaves the interface design up to you.

You can use MODX as your content management system (CMS), as MODX offers fully flexible templates and unlimited content delivery. Place your CSS and images where you want them. And once you’re done designing, either outsource your development duties to your developer or install additional features right from the manager. Simple.

Developers
You’ve looked at different CMSs, but found that development in them is either a mishmash of too many unrelated code snippets, or just not powerful enough or elegant enough. You’ve looked at PHP frameworks and found that they have all the features, but you don’t have content management or a good enough user interface for your customers. You need the power and flexibility of an infrastructure with the user interface and content management of a CMS.

Enter MODX Revolution. A fully flexible, powerful and robust API built on OOP principles and utilizing a PDO-based object-relational model called ORM. xPDO. Add a rich, Sencha user interface for your customers (fully customizable). Custom properties and sets. Internationalization support. Built-in package distribution, so you can package your code and distribute it across any Revolution deployment. Add custom manager pages to run entire applications in MODX.

Its capabilities are enough to develop almost any e-commerce site: from small e-commerce sites to storefronts with thousands of items and hundreds of product categories. CMS and popular add-ons are regularly updated.

What makes OpenCart popular. What features the CMS has. How it differs from competitors and for which stores is best suited. All this you will learn by reading the article. And before we move on to consider the functional features and advantages of the platform, a short excursion into history:

OpenCart (the meaning of the name is “Open Shopping Cart”) is one of the oldest platforms for online stores. The first presentation of the engine to the general public took place in 1999, when the online shopping market was just forming. Due to the under-formed market, the project developed slowly, and in 2000 work on it was suspended. OpenCart experienced its second birth in 2009, when the code, popular in the late 90’s, fell into the hands of British developer Daniel Kerr and he undertook to refine it. He rewrote the CMS, which was originally created in Perl, to PHP. And this is where the new history of OpenCart began.

Advantages of OpenCart

  • Free license GNU General Public License v3 allows you to use OpenCart for projects with a low starting budget.
  • Steadily growing base of add-ons, modules, templates greatly simplifies and accelerates the development of sites on OpenCart.
  • High performance with a relatively small load on the server reduces the cost of hosting fees and optimization of program code.
  • Suitable for multilevel projects: from stores with a few hundred products to sites with tens of thousands of items in the assortment.
  • Open source code opens almost limitless possibilities for individual customization and development of add-ons. OpenCart is written in PHP and it is possible to make changes to the source code.
  • Continuous development – updates are released several times a year, and found serious bugs are fixed within a few days.
  • A large community of developers and technically savvy users, as well as dozens of live forums, where you can get any necessary information on working with CMS.
  • Security: protection of transactions, prevention of hacking, fraud, loss of information data.
  • Clear admin panel – administration is intuitive, it is easy to find a content manager or train a staff member to work with content on the site.
  • Fast indexing and compliance with the basic requirements of search engines, which greatly simplifies and somewhat cheaper search engine optimization of an online store on OpenCart.
  • More than 13,000 paid and free extensions that make the creation of the site as flexible as possible.
  • The ability to sell physical and electronic goods. That is, such an engine is quite suitable for selling e-books, for example.

Functionality of OpenCart

  • Backup native tools: save any information by simply selecting the option in the admin panel.
  • Multilanguage: 24 interface languages are available.
  • Multicurrency: the ability to select a main currency and add an unlimited number of currencies.
  • 20+ customizable payment and delivery methods. When selecting a delivery option, the corresponding payment methods are displayed.
  • adaptive magazina kofe OpenCart – an overview of the platform for creating an online store
  • Ability to add categories, subcategories, manufacturers in unlimited quantities.
  • Dynamic calculation of product cost taking into account weight, packaging, shipping.
  • Modules for creating promotions, accounting for discounts and bonuses.
  • Product rating (popularity tracking), display of related product items.
  • Ability to unload product items from lists in xls, xml, csv format.
  • Simple integration with 1C.
  • Display customer reviews.
  • Ability to create multiple stores on one platform using built-in modules.
  • Optimization of images according to the screen size of the user’s device.
  • Built-in reporting on products, purchases and customers.
  • Modules for calculating tax rates.
  • Error registration and reporting.
  • Working with physical and virtual goods.
  • Registration on the site and saving the history of purchases.
  • Affiliate program: can be activated to increase sales.

Among additional options:

You can make a list of recommended products to already viewed or purchased, as well as separately highlight best-selling products. You can automate the sending of sms about the order status or add the function of comparing prices for different products.

What is WordPress? Today, it is the most popular Content Management System in the world. This CMS underpins more than 35% of all websites on the internet, and this number is constantly growing.

To summarize, a content management system is a web application that allows website owners, editors, authors to manage their websites and publish content without any programming knowledge.

WordPress uses PHP and MySQL, they are supported by almost all hosting providers. However, special hosting plans for WordPress can significantly improve the speed, performance and reliability of a website.

Usually, this CMS is used to create a blog. However, a site on WordPress can be easily converted into an online store, portfolio, news site or any other type of resource.

One of the great things about the platform is its intuitive and user-friendly interface. If you know how to use Microsoft Word, you don’t have to worry about WordPress. You’ll be able to create and publish your content without any problems.

And the best part, is that the platform is open source and is free for absolutely everyone. This content management system allows millions of people around the world to create modern, high-quality websites.

When you search for WordPress on Google or other search engines, you may find two sites: WordPress.com and WordPress.org. This can be confusing as both sites have their own mission and user base.

WordPress.org.
WordPress.org – you need this resource if you’ve decided to launch a self-hosted website. Here you can download the platform and find a large number of plugins and themes. To host your site, you need to register a domain and take care of hosting.

WordPress.com.
WordPress.com is a hosting company that uses the WordPress content management system for all blogs hosted with them. Users who sign up with this service get their own blog with a domain like moiblog.wordpress.com (custom domains are also supported, but on a paid basis). The default plan is free, but it has some limitations.
